We’re on the verge of finally getting much warmer temperatures next week in the Baltimore-D.C. area, but don’t put your snow removal tools away quite yet because despite what you might think, or hope, winter isn’t necessarily over. Sure, it may officially be spring now, but snow is not uncommon in April in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area, and you don’t even have to go that far back to find some examples.
Just last week, on April 4, 2016 several inches of snow were dropped on the Boston and high winds and freezing temperatures wreaked havoc across Maryland. It was a bitter start to April indeed!
While April snow isn’t common in the immediate D.C. area, you only have to go back to 2012 to find an instance of a storm dropping several inches of snow in Maryland during the month known for its April showers. On April 22-23 of that year, up to 6 inches of snow fell in parts of central and western Maryland.
These are just a couple examples of New England extreme spring weather in the area. As you can see, you can never be too sure of winter weather being over this time of year. So you should continue to be prepared with your ice melt and snow removal tools. Be sure to contact us if you have any questions.
